Chocomize: Design-Your-Own Chocolate Giveaway

Look what showed up at my door towards the end of finals week:

Customized chocolate bars from Chocomize! The company offered to send me some chocolate to review with the giveaway, but I couldn’t decide what combinations to get… everything looked so good! I narrowed it down to a few options, and told them to surprise me. I received two yummy bars.

Milk Chocolate with Gummi Bears and Orange Slices. I thought the combination would be kind of weird, but listed it as one of my choices anyways. As it turns out, I loved this bar! The chewy, sweet orange combined with the smooth chocolate was perfect. My only (slight) issue with the bar was that the gummi bears were a little tough, so I think next time I’d get only orange slices.

The milk chocolate itself was excellent. Velvety-smooth and creamy, it just melted in my mouth.

Dark Chocolate with Crunchy Almond Croquant, Sliced Almonds, and a Chocolate Butterfly. I have three things to say about this bar. First of all, the butterfly was beautiful. Secondly, the dark chocolate was rich and smooth, just the way I like it. And finally, I loved the crunchiness the almond toppings added.

Want to win some delicious chocolate of your own?

If you do, I have a $40 gift certificate to giveaway to one lucky reader!

To enter, visit Chocomize’s website and leave a comment here with the chocolate bar you would order. On Sunday, January 3, I will randomly select a winner.

Good luck!

And, if you have a big event like a wedding coming up, consider Chocomize bars for your favors. You can add pictures and messages to the packaging, in addition to customizing the ingredients for your bars! Yum!

Chocomize Sends Bars to Barack Obama!

Today we sent two chocolate bars to the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama. President Obama is a fellow alumnus from Columbia University, and we thought that he might enjoy his very own Chocomize chocolate bar (honestly who wouldn’t enjoy one?)He’s been a pretty busy guy this past year, what with getting elected, trying to pass an extensive health care bill, and winning the Nobel peace prize. We decided, therefore, that he could use something to cheer him up. Nothing would be better for that then a custom chocolate bar.  It took a little research into his favorite foods, but eventually we decided on two bars that we think he’ll like.

Apparently Barack Obama loves pistachios and almonds. Lucky for him, we have both on our list of ingredients and so we made him a dark chocolate bar with almonds and pistachios.  This is a pretty standard chocolate bar that we’re sure most people would enjoy. The second chocolate bar is a little riskier. We read that Obama loves chili as well as hot and spicy foods.  In that spirit we made him a chocolate bar that’s sure to pack a punch. It’s milk chocolate with cayenne pepper and chipotles. Both of these ingredients have been extremely popular, but they definitely  are not for the faint of heart.

We also packed his very own gift certificate so he can order more chocolate bars (perhaps he wants to get Michelle a nice gift, Barack if you’re reading this we recommend dark chocolate, candied rose petals, chocolate butterfly, and gold flakes.) We also put in a hand written letter that says the following:

President Obama,

We hope you enjoy the chocolates. We heard what foods you like and tried to incorporate them in these handmade chocolate bars. Our three founders are graduates of Columbia College, your alma mater. We had a hard time finding jobs in the recession after graduation so we decided to take up the American spirit of entrepreneurship and start our own company, Chocomize.com, the first in the United States which allows customers to create their own flavored chocolate with the ingredients of their choice. We hope you enjoy!

Regards,

Chocomize,

P.S. Congratulations on the Nobel Prize!

Keep checking back on our blog to get updated on the response from the President.

Ingredient of the Week: Candle + Sugar Candle Holder

The ingredient of the week is a sugar candle holder that comes with the respective candle. If you’ve read our blog before, you know how great custom chocolate bars are for gifts. We already have a lot of unique ingredients when it comes to birthday gifts. Take our ‘happy birthday’ plaques for instance. They really help make your custom chocolate bar stand out when you are giving it for someone’s birthday gift. Now we have a decoration that’s going to set your custom chocolate bar apart from any chocolate bar you’ve ever tried: sugar candle holders.

candle

Candle’s on someone’s birthday is a time honored tradition. Customarily the candles appear in some sort of cake, whether they are birthday cakes or mini cupcakes. Now, however, you can give someone a birthday cake in their own custom designed chocolate bar! The sugar candle holders are firmly placed in your chocolate bar so all you need to do is place the candle (which we give you) in the holder and light them! We guarantee you will surprise and delight whoever is lucky enough to get this awesome gift. The candle holders are made from sugar and completely edible (not to mention absolutely delicious.) So if you’re giving someone a custom chocolate bar for their birthday, remember that no birthday gift is complete without any sugar candle holders!

Thanks for everyone who sent in suggestions for ingredients this week. As always we love to hear what ingredients you’d like to have on our website. If you have any ideas be sure to shoot us an e-mail at info@chocomize.com.

The Review:

It was fun creating my bar of whatever ingredients I wanted to choose from and I was amazed at the number of spectucular availabilities! It took some time to decide as I wanted to check out everything as I think this is really a great idea to select and create your own chocolate masterpiece. I ended up going with milk chocolate, macadamia nuts and coconut. I wanted to choose a bar that would not only appeal to my tastes but my oldest as she’s the chocolate expert in our house.

As promised on their website, Chocomize delivers quickly to your door! The bar was well protected and arrived in this elegant packaging that allows the receiver to see the bar and all the amazing ingredients. I liked the packaging with the nice logo at the bottom which reflects an upscale chocolate product. The back of the box contains the ingredients, nutrition facts and their quality statement that each bar is handmade to order using only premium ingredients and the finest Belgian chocolate. I’ve traveled to many countries for my job and have to say that hands down, I love Belgian chocolate and this bar lives up to the quality, taste and texture expected.

The bar is wrapped in a resealable wrapper which makes it nice to not overindulge. Whole macadamia nuts were placed throughout the bar and in just about every bite. There was nothing left out of this delicious tasting bar. It is truly worth the money and has provides that one of kind, personalized touch to anyone.

I would recommend Chocomize to anyone regardless of the reason. It’s a great treat for yourself, a wonderful way to say you love someone or are thinking of them or just to say thank you.

Ingredient of the Week: Hard Peppermint Candy

The new ingredient of the week is hard peppermint candy! We use crushed candy canes and hard peppermints to give you that delicious and popular mint taste in your custom chocolate bar. This ingredient seems to be especially popular during the holiday season as we’ve been recently flooded with requests by people who were dying to have it in their Chocomize bar.

hard_mint_candy

Ever wondered why restaurants always have mints for people to eat after a meal? Studies have shown that mints help with digesting large meals. A German study recently showed that mints can help alleviate cramps resulting from digestion problems. Studies have also shown that mint helps with memory and context related learning. Restaurants are hoping that the next time you chew a stick of mint gum, or suck on a piece of mint candy, you’ll remember the great (cramp free) meal you had. We were shocked to learn that so much thought went into those little mints we always grabbed when leaving a restaurant, we were always hoping that they would make our breath smell a little better.

We aren’t offering mint for your custom chocolate bar out of some crazy diabolical scheme to get you hooked on our chocolate bars (although that wouldn’t be a bad side effect) we just think it’s a great tasting ingredient. Our hard mint candy is not the first mint ingredient we’ve added to our website. We also have candied mint leaves which have been very popular. Personally, we recommend that you try dark chocolate with mint, blueberries, almonds, and marshmallows. Mint also goes extremely well with white chocolate and oreos.

So if you’re looking for a great tasting ingredient that may or may not (the only thing we guarantee at Chocomize is that it will taste great) help with digestion and cure your bad breath, try the hard mint candy in your next custom chocolate bar.

As always, thanks to everyone who sent in suggestions for ingredients this past week. If you think you know of a great tasting ingredient that you don’t see listed on our website, send us an e-mail at info@chocomize.com. We’ll be sure to add it to our list, and if you’re lucky it might just be the next ingredient of the week!
